Bringing Families Together in Camrose

·

One of the things we’re extremely passionate about in Camrose is that we bring family events to the community, all for free.

For the last several years, the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre has been working with Fountain Tire to bring the Fountain Tire Family Series, a combination of live performance events for schools and for families.

As part of our goal to foster a love of the performing arts, bringing these works to school-aged kids and their families is just as important as bringing in the different events we bring to everyone else.

This year is no different.

For our 10th anniversary, we have five shows in the Fountain Tire Family Series, two for the area schools and three for families. What’s great about the family shows is patrons can just go online and reserve their seats!

Here’s some interesting pieces about the series:

Family Shows

We program a variety of shows for the whole family and this year is no different. Sometimes we bring shows targeted to a younger demographic ideal for the pre-K to Grade 2 level, and then sometimes we bring family entertainment with a circus element.

The Returns Department by the Kif-Kif Sisters, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. (this performance just passed)

Identical twin sisters from Montreal, QUE., the Kif-Kif Sisters have been entertaining audiences since 2007, playing at festivals all over North America.

Their show, Returns Department, is a 55-minute romp as they navigate the returns department at a store. They discover all sorts of dysfunctional objects and manufacturing defects on their conveyor belt. Little by little, the temptation to play with the merchandise takes hold, but the objects themselves play some tricks of their own!

We had hundreds of people in the theatre to watch the Kif-Kif Sisters at the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre in Camrose.

Snow White by Dufflebag Theatre, Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

There are many things we love about Dufflebag Theatre; maybe it’s because they literally bring their theatre with them in a bag, or maybe it’s because they include the younger audience into their stories for a unique and engaging experience. Either way, their 60-minute rendition of Snow White will have the entire family laughing.

Rapunzel by Alberta Musical Theatre Company, Sunday, Mar. 2 at 2 p.m.

Whenever the Alberta Musical Theatre Company (AMTC) comes out with a new show, we jump at the opportunity to bring this family-friendly experience to the Camrose stage.

The story of Rapunzel will be told in the unique and fun way that AMTC can and we know the whole family will enjoy this performance. Tickets to this free performance become available on Dec. 5!

School Shows

The school shows are free to the schools, which supports their goals to bring the performing arts to the students without having too heavy a cost (we don’t charge the schools in the Camrose area). These performances are for schools only.

Every time we reach out to the schools they jump at the opportunity and those seats get taken up quickly. The two school shows are sold out and we’re excited to bring these performing arts opportunities to the Camrose and area schools!

For Science! By Small Maters, Wednesday, Oct. 23

If you combine Bill Nye the Science Guy and the Blue Man Group, you get For Science! By Small Matters.

Where Have All the Buffalo Gone by Axis Theatre, Thursday, Jan. 23

Where Have All The Buffalo Gone?  follows two Métis souls through seven different periods of Métis history. We bear witness to the emergence of the Métis nations across the plains, the robust colonization that arises from the fur trade, the disappearance of the buffalo and the political uprising of the Métis Association of Alberta.

These performances wouldn’t be possible without the support of Fountain Tire and through additional donations from our patrons.

It’s all part of the BRAVO Youth Access Program. If you’re considering supporting the performing arts in Camrose, we invite you to make a donation!

See you at the next performance!
